Yasuhiro Yotsumoto was born in Osaka, Japan in 1959 and grew up mostly in Hiroshima. His first book of poetry A Laughing Bug was published in 1991, followed by 10 more collections including Modern Japan Poetry Diary (2015), Prisoner of Japanese (2012 Ayukawa Nobuo Award), Hijacking Logos (2010), Muddy Calendar: poetry dialogue with Inuo Taguchi (2006), and Afternoon of Forbidden Words (2003 Hagiwara Sakutaro Award). In the Spring of 2015, Yasuhiro organized “Trilingual Renshi” by collaborating with Shuntaro Tanikawa (Japan), Kim Hyesoon (Korea), and Ming Di (China) and will publish the result on August 15 as a commemoration for the 70th anniversary of the WWII. His poems have been translated into more than 15 languages, including 3 books published in English (Family Room by Vagabond Press), Serbian and Romanian. Yasuhiro also writes novels, stories, essays, literary criticism, and translates poetry from English to Japanese. He is the editor of Poetry International Web—Japan, and of a Japanese poetry magazine “Beagle.” Yasuhiro has been away from Japan since 1986 and is currently living in Munich, Germany.
