What follows is a snap shot, a first glimpse, a first grappling with grief and loss. There are poems and videos. Photographs and prose recollections. Some of the pieces come from intimates. Some of the pieces come from admirers. There are tributes by former students who worked with CD in the classroom and from those of us who learned from her at a distance. What’s here is incredibly provisional and inevitably incomplete.
Some Buddhists remember the dead with memorial services on the third, seventh, forty-ninth, and one-hundredth day after the death. In the months and years that follow, the work and life of CD Wright will be memorialized in other ways. We look forward to reading and remembering. We look forward to the scholarship that will begin to unpack the incredible artistic production and its impact on contemporary poetry.
What we have brought together here we offer out of love and admiration.
