I look at the book and tell her that the first word on the page she has picked is “garnet” and the last word on this same page is “garret.” She looks up, interested. And then she emits something. She is quiet for a moment, percolating. Then finally she says, that works. I will refer to our “it” as either, garnet, or garret — depending.
