But in any case, to continue – there is a diagram featuring an open mouth, with an arrow pointing to the tonsils; a photo of one of those motivational posters people often hang in their offices – this one says “Ambition” and shows a man standing on top of a mountain, and beneath it someone has written: “Useless. As if a fat office drone like you is going to climb a mountain”; an anti-iPod ad that shows an alien, in silhouette, plugged into an iPod, with the slogan “Resistance is useless.”

I think they mean to say “futile.” Resistance is futile. This line became popular after the Borg made its—their?—appearance on “Star Trek.” The Borg is a collective of cybernetic organisms who have achieved a frightening oneness, a homogeneous brand of perfection; their objective is to force others to assimilate. They are a beehive, the individual members of which are indistinguishable from one another. They are drones, worker bees, and exist only to sustain the collective.
