The Pacific Theater

rendered the bomber

a performance of innovation:

the gunner’s wing, the gunner’s

station,

gun turrets on the fuselage

(four guns in later versions),

more turrets

beneath the fuselage,

equipped

with guns and guns and guns, each

gun on a mission.

By ear we follow,

accelerate our capacity to sub-

contract a form of touch

a reach

from land to air to land.

A move to precision,

to computers

to strikes now carried out by drones,

a game:

pin the “Fat Man” to the map,

pin the mission to the morning,

paint the pilot and his damage into

storage.
