EVENING WILL COME: A MONTHLY JOURNAL OF POETICS (ISSUE 6: June 2011)

Ada Limón
A Mandala for Poetics                    (page 2)

A very important, but small thing, like a poem. And so, in an effort to transcribe how a poem comes into being for me, I created a mandala while focusing on my writing process. I am not an artist, by any means. Nor would I claim to practice Buddhism or any other religion. I do believe that tapping into the unconscious is incredibly important. Of course I do, I am a writer. Do not be alarmed at the child-like designs, I really do usually keep these to myself. Most writers will tell you that delving into how we really work is very similar to describing a dream. It’s hard to explain, it’s very personal, and we worry that the person we are telling it to will think we are crazy.
