Lest I put too much focus on the page, let’s bring in sound—sonic resemblance and punning, remembering my favorite lesson from psychoanalysis: that we always say more than we say. Pun recalls punishment—and reminds me that what is at stake is the taming of language versus its teeming. Excess as imperative?

I prefer conversations about the flailing of language to those about the failures of language.
