10. Ten pieces of a poetics. That’s more than enough for now. Besides, what it really means is this: poetry is friendship and argument, love and self-exposure. Better still, let me end by quoting Ron Padgett: poetry is "something deep and mysterious inside of me that cannot be explained." And so inquiry in poetry begins with a mystery, a motive—a willingness to push out beyond the limits of myself. This is a most basic and necessary requirement.
