Petra Backonja lives in the USA and is currently re-writing Hijikata’s notes on Butoh, transposing Sanderson’s How to Know the American Mammals, translating dream images in an 18th century chronicle of Sarajevo, and deforming a 19th century mariner’s diary. She still writes the occasional lyric poem based on an elaborate algorithm. The image is from the series, Forget Language, 2008 – present. The title image of this series and an essay on visual poetry are in The Last Vispo Anthology: Visual Poetry 1998 – 2008, edited by Crag Hill and Nico Vassilakis.
